The UNT Faculty Mentoring Program provides faculty with support and resources for successful academic careers. Based on research and feedback from UNT stakeholders, the UNT Faculty Mentoring Program uses a network model of mentoring that encourages faculty to seek multiple mentors.
To help new faculty transition into their new roles, the UNT Faculty Mentoring Program provides departmental mentoring by requiring chairs to pair new faculty with a senior colleague as a mentor. Faculty Success also encourages faculty to seek cross-disciplinary mentoring, and in Fall 2024 is piloting cross-disciplinary mentor pairing for the first 20 faculty who request it. Faculty Success encourages faculty to seek peer mentoring from various sources, including the University Writing Group. The Faculty Mentoring Program also includes funding opportunities—individual and team mentoring grants and Conference Support for full-time faculty of all ranks and CREATE for assistant professors—that support professional development and help faculty receive external mentoring from mentors at other institutions. Many departments and colleges offer group mentoring opportunities, and Faculty Success provides mentoring programming to support faculty mentoring through events, asynchronous mentor training, and mentoring resources on our website.
UNT is committed to a culture of mentoring excellence in all areas that impact faculty life, and building a network of mentors is foundational to our success.
