Garrett's Tips for Student Success

What is your favorite place or thing to do on campus? Why?

One of my favorite things to do on campus is have lunch at Mean Greens Café! Fun Fact: Mean Greens was the first ever fully vegan dining hall in the country. It is a great place to grab something to eat that is both healthy and delicious. Not hungry and just looking to relax? UNT's Community Garden is a great place to enjoy a budding habitat right on campus while you are studying.

What advice do you have for students who are undecided in their major?

View it as having the true “college experience”! It is completely normal to not be sure what major that you want to pursue. Choosing a career path is a big decision - and not something that should be taken lightly! Also - don't be afraid to choose a major that you enjoy. You might not think that a certain degree has a lot of job options, but you would be surprised! O*Net is a great tool to explore how your skills and major interests can translate to a post-grad world.

What advice do you have for prospective UNT students?

Explore your interests early on! UNT offers many different major pathways. Some are very flexible; some are not so flexible. Those interested in Music, Business, or Engineering in particular need to investigate their major requirements before pursuing these fields. Looked into the requirements for these majors and aren't sure about them anymore? Come and talk to us at the Office of Advising Services!

What is the number one resource you recommend to students who are exploring majors?

The Office of Advising Services is a great place to explore your major, but you might just want to jump right in on your own! In that case, looking at UNT's Undergraduate Catalog is always a great place to start. Through this resource, you will get a complete list of all the majors and concentrations that UNT offers, and all the prerequisites that they have. Go through and jot down which majors sound interesting to you, and then bring that list to us!
