Christine's Tips for Student Success
What is your favorite place or thing to do on campus? Why?
One of my favorite places is the Syndicate in the University Union. I LOVE all kinds of music and it's a great place to hear the world-renowned One
O'clock Lab Band play jazz! I also love finding time to sit and relax outside on
one of the many benches and “porch swings” around campus whenever I need a break in
the day and get some fresh air.
What advice do you have for students who are undecided in their major?
Take some time to get to know yourself and consider how you like to spend your time/energy.
What subjects really interest you? What kind of school/work environment is the best
“fit” for you? What are your career goals? Learning to trust yourself and really understand
your likes and dislikes is a great way to set yourself on the path to decide your
major.
It's also a good idea to research and get involved in some co-curricular activities that you may enjoy. There are so many clubs, organizations, and groups on campus. Meeting people and making connections can be so helpful as you explore your interests on your way to deciding your major.
What advice do you have for prospective UNT students?
Get to know the UNT website. It can seem overwhelming at first but there's so many
resources with pictures, videos, information, and contacts. Take time to explore the
course catalog, take a virtual tour of the campus, and read all about the different
colleges and departments. Take special note of dates and deadlines so you can stay
on top of things!
What is the number one resource you recommend to students who are exploring majors?
I think a great first step is in accessing the Tools for Exploring Majors on the Office
of Advising Services page. The UNT Majors Activity is a great way to start you on the journey of deciding your major.
What is your favorite quote?
“The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your
story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only
you can.”-Neil Gaiman
