Amanda's Tips for Student Success

What is your favorite place or thing to do on campus? Why?
My favorite place on campus is the window arch on the third floor of Willis Library. It overlooks the heart of campus and is a designated quiet floor; I pulled a lot of all-nighters there when I was a student because of the beautiful view and cozy vibes. It always makes me feel like I’m at Hogwarts for some reason.

What advice do you have for students who are undecided in their major?
Don’t panic! I know it seems like everyone around you has it all together and that you’re a step behind because you haven’t decided on a major, but think of your indecision as a gift! It means that you’re seeking more than just a degree or a job title; you’re interested in finding a major that will enhance your life because it will fit with who you are as a person.
Don’t be afraid to dive into the process. Start by meeting with us in Advising Services; we’re here to help you sort through your options and point you toward helpful information. It’s what we love to do!

What advice do you have for prospective students?
Start gathering information as early as you can! Know your major’s prerequisites and overall requirements. TRANSFER STUDENTS: Have a plan in place if you are taking courses at a community college; do not just blindly take courses and assume they will fit your specific degree plan. Use a UNT Transfer Guide to help you choose classes and work with Transfer Admissions Counselors very closely during the application process. We are all here to make sure you start UNT as successfully and seamlessly as possible. Again, it’s what we love to do!

What is your favorite quote?
