The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs invites nominations for two internal leadership development programs: Faculty Leadership Fellows (FLF) and Academic Affairs Fellows (AAF). Administered by the Faculty Success Office, both programs aim to strengthen the university’s leadership pipeline. All program participants will embark on a year-long program of leader assessments, discussions, readings, and interactions with administrative leaders. Application materials are available through the Faculty Success grant portal.

Applications are due April 27, 2026. Selections will be announced by May 15, 2026. For questions, please contact Vice Provost Holly Hutchins.

Faculty Leadership Fellows

The Faculty Leadership Fellows (FLF) program supports emerging or early-career faculty leaders seeking greater visibility, experience, and engagement. Participants complete a year-long program of leadership development activities while leading a strategic, college-level project. Each college may nominate up to three full-time faculty members (tenured or professional-ranked) with an interest in administrative leadership for the FLF program.

Nominations from the chair or dean must include:

  1. The applicant’s statement of interest and commitment, and
  2. A 1–2 page letter addressing qualifications, readiness, and the proposed project and project sponsor

If a chair is nominating a faculty member, they must ensure that no more than three applications come from their college.

Academic Affairs Fellows

The Academic Affairs Fellows (AAF) program is designed for advanced faculty leaders and provides an immersive experience focused on university-level FY27 strategic initiatives aligned with Faculty Success priorities:

  • Assisting with university-level policy changes and changes to college and unit bylaws, charters, and guidelines;
  • Assessing and supporting faculty and unit leaders' professional developmental needs during UNT's current strategic realignment;
  • Reviewing and compiling faculty separation data to assess programming and resource needs; and
  • Collaborating with one or more Faculty Success team members on faculty development programming and initiatives.

One faculty nomination is permitted per college for the AAF program. Eligible applicants include full-time principal lecturers, clinical professors, librarians, and tenured faculty. Candidates should demonstrate strong leadership, project management, communication, and analytical skills. The appointment begins August 25, 2026, and includes a one-course release per semester (up to $5,000 per course).

Dean nominations must include:

  1. The applicant’s CV, and
  2. A 1–2 page letter addressing qualifications and alignment with program priorities.
