What is a MARTIAL Eagle?...

MARTIAL is our short way of saying Motivated Alliance for a Rigorous, Transformative, and Interdisciplinary Approach to Learning!  We are looking for incoming freshman who are committed to pursuing academic excellence here at UNT alongside their peers.  A student who is accepted into this program will be known as a MARTIAL Eagle.

Interesting fact:  the Martial Eagle also happens to be one of the largest eagles on the continent of Africa. 

Who is eligible to apply?...

First-generation students are especially encouraged to apply as the program is designed to offer intensive support to assist students with their transition to UNT.   For the purposes of this program, a first-generation student is defined as one whose parent(s) have not completed a bachelor’s degree.

When is the deadline to apply?...
After careful consideration, the MARTIAL Eagles program will be taking a hiatus for the upcoming academic year (2024-2025). This hiatus period will be used to make valuable enhancements to the program to ensure we continue to meet the needs of our students, while adhering to state and federal law as a state institution.
What commitment is expected of MARTIAL Eagles? How much time will this program require of students?...
Outside of your normal course load, MARTIAL Eagles are expected to actively engage in academic and other campus resources.  For example, you might attend supplemental instruction and/or tutoring sessions to improve your content knowledge for a specific class. Or, you might visit with a Career Coach to discuss what internship opportunities are available for your chosen field.  Additionally, there are many exciting campus activities in which program staff will encourage you to participate.  
Is there a GPA requirement in order to stay in the MARTIAL Eagles program? ...

While there is no GPA requirement to participate in MARTIAL Eagles, the first-year program is designed to help students perform at their highest potential and to establish a solid UNT GPA on which to build.  Many leadership opportunities on campus will require that students earn and maintain a strong GPA.  You'll also need a good GPA in order to apply for continuing student scholarships.

We administer grade checks, facilitate mandatory weekly study sessions, and share resources to help you throughout your academic career here at UNT.  All MARTIAL Eagles are expected to participate in these activities.
