December 2022 Graduates

Ammr Abbasher

“My name is Ammr Abbasher and I am an alumnus from the University of North Texas. I graduated in December of 2022 with a bachelors degree of Business Administration with a major in Marketing and a minor in Business Analytics. I am also a part of the 2017 MARTIAL Eagle’s cohort.

Going to high school with your childhood friends, moving to a new university, and living with new people can be very overwhelming, especially when you go through it alone. When I graduated high school in 2017, I could only imagine the blessings that were headed my way. It’s safe to say that the MARTIAL Eagle program was the biggest blessing of my journey through UNT. When it comes to learning and utilizing about on campus resources to meeting some of my best friends today, I couldn’t have done it without a support system like that of the MARTIAL Eagles’. When I was away from my family, I knew that I had another one here in Denton. As a freshman student who was once trying to figure it all out, I can safely say there’s no better feeling than knowing that there’s people out there who want you to succeed in your collegiate and personal life.

I am proud to say that as of today I am now working as an IT Cloud developer and in the near future I plan on advancing my career deeper into IT cloud infrastructure. I wouldn’t be who I am today if it was not for the MARTIAL Eagle program and the experiences and resources that it has provided to me and students like me.“

Cameron Holt

"My name is Cameron Holt I am from Alexandria, Louisiana and I have just graduated from the University of North Texas earning my bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship. I come from the Fall’19 Cohort of the Male Alliance for A Rigorous, Transformative and Interdisciplinary Approach to Learning or M.A.R.T.I.A.L. Eagle Program. When I first joined this organization, I had no idea just how much it would impact every aspect of my college career.

The first thing I was shown as a M.A.R.T.I.A.L was how to become more organized and how to navigate through the academic freedoms of college. They showed me a way to keep my discipline by giving my college life structure. They also showed me better study habits to help improve my overall grade averages in my courses but in all honesty that’s what they said they were going to do. They succeeded in that plan with me but it is what they didn’t say they were going to do that had some of the biggest impacts on me and my collegiate career. I was given a place to call home in Rawlins Hall with many like-minded (and looking ) people around me. I didn’t have to start off not knowing anybody. I was given a village of others who would not only in some ways become like family but were essential assets to getting through some of the coursework.

When in college you often wonder as a student through the years you wonder about who you are and who you want to become. Without the aid of Mr. Woodard and Ms. Harris I would have never discovered my ability to lead others, an aspect of my life that is key to who I wish to become. Mr. Woodard and Ms. Harris were extremely attentive to our progress academically throughout the years but it was more than that. They were also extremely attentive to how everything was going with me and how was I progressing through life as a person. I can be honest and say without them I am not sure if I would have made it all the way through to the end and even if I did the path would have been so much more uncertain and filled with many more rigors.

I could continue on and on about all the many different things that this program has done to affect change in my life. Thank you could never be words enough. I believe this program could change so many more lives just like it did mine and it needs to stand the test of time because real change takes place with the right people to guide you. My only wish is to live up to the potential that they saw in me from the very beginning.

Since graduating I have taken a job to be a sales representative for a data systems company all in hopes of learning how to navigate the world of business better so that I may take the knowledge of the M.A.R.T.I.A.L.S and the knowledge I have procured to start my own successful business and affect similar positivity and change. Writing this oddly feels like I am closing the book on something I hold very dear to me but if there are any words that stuck with me from my time with them is “Once a M.A.R.T.I.A.L always a M.A.R.T.I.A.L.”

Tyler Richardson

"My name is Tyler Richardson. I am the son of Rolando and Veronica Richardson. I have one sibling, my older sister Brielle.

I relocated to Texas from New York City at the age of 1 and have attended Texas schools my whole life. I graduated from the University of North Texas in December 2022 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Computer Information Systems.

I am a proud member of the 2018 UNT MARTIAL Eagles cohort, which in my humble opinion was the best cohort!

I often think back about what my college experience would have been like if I wasn’t a part of the MARTIAL Eagles. I truly don’t believe my transition from High School to College would have been so successful or enjoyable. I remember being greeted by Mr. Woodard and Ms. Candi and introduced to the other MARTIAL Eagles. Everyone was so welcoming, and it helped me be more at ease and less anxious. I made instant connections and because we were all in the same dorm, we pretty much did everything together. We ate together, studied together and even went to places off campus together.

The MARTIAL Eagles program is important because it helps you build a strong foundation from the beginning, with study time sessions, the UCRS course, parent meetings, and progress checks. I even made Dean’s list a couple of times! I can honestly say that without the MARTIAL Eagles program, I don’t think I’d be in the position I’m in today.

This past summer, I was an intern at J.P. Morgan, a Fortune 500 company, and at the end of my internship, I was offered a full-time Analyst position after graduation, which I will begin this summer.

I am currently working on my graduate school applications and my future aspirations are to be a CFO or CTO of a financial institution or tech firm."
