Building Better Pathways to Success
Nest Builders was a student partner program at the University of North Texas designed
to support academic success, social connection, career development, and overall wellness
for first-time-in-college (FTIC) students. Running from Fall 2020 through Fall 2024,
the program evolved each year as students from previous cohorts shared feedback, helping
shape future experiences.
Each fall, incoming FTIC students were invited to participate in activities such as
meeting with advisors, joining tutoring sessions, attending financial coaching, pairing
with an ACCESS Mentor, and submitting the FAFSA. Students were eligible for financial
incentives if they accessed the resource, reflected on their experience as a student
partner, and maintained full-time enrollment. For the final Fall 2024 cohort, these
incentives were awarded and split between students’ 2025 and Spring 2026 financial
aid packages.
Program Conclusion
Nest Builders concluded after the Fall 2024 cohort. For the final Fall 2024 cohort,
these incentives were awarded and split between students’ 2025 and Spring 2026 financial
aid packages.
“I am so grateful for getting involved in this program. It was a great opportunity
for me to get involved in all aspects of a college life. It helped me immensely in
that it not only helped me financially, but it also provided me a means to get involved
and to reduce my stress. I really want to thank all of the team who have supported
this program for incoming students, so that they can get a positive start on their
education. It was a great experience for me.” - Nabiza
