proud of the difference they make in students' lives, and would like to recognize
some of the most thanked teachers at our university.
Dr. Kat Aoyama
Associate Professor
Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology
Dr. Aoyama has been at UNT since August of 2012. She is an Associate Professor in
the department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. She is well-loved by her
students and it shows! She has received 104 notes of appreciation from her students.
When asked what she loved most about teaching, she said: "I think my students think
my classes are fun! (At least most students.)"
Harry Ellis
Principal Lecturer
Department of Economics
Harry Ellis has been at UNT since 1990. He is a principal lecturer with the department
of Economics in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. He has received several
notes of appreciation through the Thank a Teacher program. When asked what he loved
most about teaching, he said: "I enjoy when students learn economics is more than
thought and appreciate how relevant it is with so many decisions they frequently make."
Dr. Mariya Gavrilova Aguilar
Senior Lecturer
Department of Management
Dr. Aguilar has been at UNT since the fall of 2018. She is a Senior Lecturer with
the department of Management in the G. Brint Ryan College of Business. She has received
many notes of appreciation from her students. When asked what she loved most about
teaching, she said: "Teaching gives me an opportunity to connect with students, learn
about their interests and goals, and serve as a mentor and a guide. I strive to help
students discover their own motives for pursuing post-secondary education or a specific
career and find purpose in what they do."
Dr. Luwis Mhlanga
Senior Lecturer
Department of Hospitality and Tourism
Dr. Mhlanga been at UNT for twelve years. He is a Senior Lecturer with the department
of Hospitality and Tourism in the College of Merchandising, Hospitality, and Tourism.
He has received several notes of appreciation from students. When asked what he loved
most about teaching, he said: "My students motivate me to be the best I can be. I
love this quote 'What the teacher is, is more important than what he teaches.' Karl
Menninger."
Dr. Gayatri Mehta
Professor
Department of Electrical Engineering
Dr. Mehta has been at UNT since the fall of 2009. She is a Professor with the department
of Electrical Engineering in the College of Engineering. She has received many notes
of appreciation from her students. When asked what she loved most about teaching,
she said: "To inspire students and help them excel. It's very satisfying to see the
excitement in the classroom when students understand intricate concepts."
