Scheduled prospective advising appointments are paused while our team supports New Student Orientation. Virtual drop-in advising will be available on select dates through August 7th. 
Regular prospective advising appointments will resume August 24, 2026.

A prospective advising session can help you: 

  • Explore majors that align with your interests, strengths, and goals
  • Understand the UNT Core Curriculum and other degree requirements
  • Discuss how previous college coursework may apply toward the UNT Core
  • Identify academic resources and questions to consider before enrolling
  • Feel more prepared for your transition to UNT

Prospective advising is available virtually and, when regular appointments are offered, at our Denton and Frisco locations. 

Request an Unofficial Core Credit Review

Email your unofficial transcripts to untadvising@unt.edu to learn how previous coursework may apply toward the UNT Core Curriculum. Allow 5–10 business days for your review.
These reviews are unofficial. Final transfer-credit decisions are made after admission and may require review by your academic department.
Students with more than 90 completed credit hours or coursework from several four-year institutions should contact an advisor in their intended UNT college.

Is Prospective Advising Right for Me?

Prospective advising is intended for students considering their first undergraduate degree at UNT.
Prospective academic counselors cannot:

  • Complete official or on-the-spot transfer-credit evaluations.
  • Select or register you for classes.
  • Waive New Student Orientation.
  • Provide graduate or second-bachelor’s advising.

All new undergraduate students must attend New Student Orientation before registering for their first semester with assistance from their assigned college advisor.

Graduate students should contact the Graduate School or their intended graduate program.

Students pursuing a second bachelor’s degree should contact their intended undergraduate program directly.

To make the most of your conversation:

  • Have an unofficial transcript available if you have previous college credit
  • Identify any majors or career fields you are considering
  • Write down the questions you would like to discuss
  • Review UNT’s degree and transfer resources below
