Abby's Tips for Student Success
What is your favorite place or thing to do on campus? Why?
I love to get coffee and hang out on the fourth floor of the Student Union. The fourth floor has the best chairs for reading and napping.
What advice do you have for students who are undecided in their major?
It is absolutely okay and normal to be undecided, otherwise our office wouldn’t exist. Think about the fields that interest you and see if there is any way you can gain personal experience in those areas to determine whether or not they truly are a good fit, such as internships, volunteer work, participation in relevant student organizations, or doing informational interviews with people already working within those fields. This will give you a tangible way to assess how your values, interests, personality, and skills fit into the areas you’re considering.
What advice do you have for prospective UNT students?
UNT has so many major options, it can be overwhelming. Take some time to really explore all of those options and always feel free to reach out if you are not sure what the best fit will be as we may be able to match you to majors you did not even know existed! Consider what has worked well for you in the courses you have already taken if you are transferring in credit and if you are starting fresh, consider how you can use Core requirements to explore your interests.
What is the number one resource you recommend to students who are exploring majors?
The UNT Majors Activity is a great place to start to see what all UNT actually offers. Then, once you have picked the majors that sound interesting to you, check out the UNT Catalog to see what courses are actually required for the major.
