The Summer Scholars program for 2023 has been canceled.
Let us help you get back on track!
Let's be honest, college can be challenging especially when life throws you a few
curveballs. If you had a tough semester or two but are ready to bounce back, apply
for the Summer Scholars program.
WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE SUMMER SCHOLARS PROGRAM?
The Summer Scholars Program provides participants an opportunity to:
- enroll in up to 6 credit hours during the 5W1 session
- receive structured academic support from program staff including peer academic mentors
- participate in weekly workshops designed to help you strengthen your life and academic
skill sets
- receive $1,000 stipend - to be applied to your student account
HOW MUCH DOES THE PROGRAM COST?
Students will be responsible for tuition and fees for up to 6 hours.
Students needing assistance with tuition and fees may appeal directly to Student Financial Aid and Scholarships (SFAS).
To get a tentative estimate of what your tuition and fees could look like this semester,
use this tuition calculator. Please keep in mind that the amount could change, but this will give you a general
idea of what to expect.
WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA?
The Summer Scholars program is open to continuing students who are interested in improving
their GPAs. To be eligible, students must:
- be enrolled during the Spring 2023 semester;
- *have a UNT CGPA (cumulative grade point average) of 2.2 or below at the end of Spring
2023 semester;
- have no prior term balance greater than $1000,
- agree to regularly attend class, all program workshops, and requisite mentor meetings.
*For students with a CGPA below 2.0, we strongly encourage you to consult with your
academic advisor about which combination of new and/or repeated courses to take during
the 5W1 session of summer school.
WHAT IF I'M NOT SURE I AM OR WILL BE ELIGIBLE?
Apply anyway. It is better to be proactive and apply, than to wait until the last
possible moment and scramble to apply for the program. We highly encourage any student
that suspects they may need assistance improving their GPA to apply for our program.
If you decide you no longer want or need to participate after you receive your grades
for the spring semester, you can opt out and provide someone else the opportunity
to participate.
Trust us. If you have any suspicion you may need a little extra help, just apply.
