Early Start is a 5-week summer residential program that offers newly admitted first year STEM students an opportunity to earn up to six (6) hours of graded credit before the Fall semester begins. Any incoming freshman student already admitted to the University of North Texas who plans to declare a major in science, technology, engineering or mathematics is eligible to apply. First generation, low-income students, and those with an entry level math placement are especially encouraged to apply.
Early Start is held during Summer Session II (July 6 – August 7) and includes classroom instruction, tutoring, academic coaching, mentoring and various workshops designed to help students transition more smoothly into university life.
Students will enroll in either MATH 1100 (Algebra) or BIOL 1710 (Biology for Science Majors) AND either English 1310 (College Writing) or TECM 2700 (Technical Writing) during the 5W2 Summer Session.
