Launching Strong Careers in One of the Nation’s Fastest-Growing Regions

The University of North Texas has a long legacy of career-connected education, especially given its location in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, one of the most dynamic economic regions in the world. DFW is home to global headquarters, a wide array of communities and booming industries including tech, health care, logistics and finance.

As the region's largest R1 public research university, UNT takes special pride in providing access to an affordable, high-quality education that prepares students for meaningful careers in today's and tomorrow's workforce. And as the first Texas university to partner with Braven, a national nonprofit dedicated to empowering talented students as they transition from college to career, UNT is expanding its commitment to helping students unlock their potential and step boldly into life after college.

Braven at UNT

UNT will launch its exclusive Braven experience — the first and only in Texas — in Spring 2026.

UCRS 1300: Exploring Majors and Careers through Self-Discovery is a 3-credit hybrid course that blends weekly online modules with in-person learning labs. These labs are led by working professionals who mentor small student teams through real-world assignments designed to develop essential career competencies including career navigation, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, organization and leadership.

Open to all undergraduates, the course is especially recommended for sophomores, juniors and transfer students who want to get connected on campus, build career-ready skills and make confident plans for their future.

In the course, students will:
  • Create a strong resume, cover letter and LinkedIn profile
  • Develop their professional skills through mock interviews, networking, team projects and more
  • Build community and confidence
  • Earn 3 credits toward their undergraduate degree

Students who complete the course, known as Braven Fellows, receive additional opportunities to develop leadership and career-readiness skills, engage in a professional network and stay on track to secure strong internships or jobs or enter graduate school through:

  • Individual mentoring by professionals in their field
  • Braven networking events, career panels and job skills sessions
  • Braven Career Communities, industry-specific pathways that connect Braven Fellows to relevant resources, tools, people, learning experiences and opportunities
  • Access to internship and employment opportunities facilitated by Braven

Why Braven?

Across the country, Braven Fellows are finding community, developing their potential and landing high-quality first jobs aligned with their goals and degrees.

  • 61% of Braven’s 2024 graduates secured quality full-time jobs worthy of their bachelor’s degree or enrolled in graduate school within six months of graduation, compared to 43% of bachelor's graduates from peer institutions.
  • 70% of Braven college graduates have at least one internship during college, compared to 48% of all
    college graduates nationally.

Braven Fellows are saying...

  • "Braven helped me land a strong internship by equipping me with the professional skills employers seek. Through Braven, I was able to substantially improve my LinkedIn profile, interview skills, and build confidence in myself.”
Brandon Padilla, Spring 2024 Braven Fellow
  • "As a transfer student, I initially joined Braven to strengthen my leadership skills and become part of a supportive campus community. What I gained, however, went far beyond my expectations. Through Braven, I formed lifelong friendships, built meaningful connections within the community, and honed personal and professional skills that have been instrumental in my journey."
