FAQs

Can UNT Advisors tell me which classes will fulfill requirements at my home college or university?
NO. It is important that you are advised by YOUR institution BEFORE you apply to take classes as a non-degree seeking student at UNT. Our advisors cannot provide academic advising toward how UNT credit will be utilized by your home institution.

What if a class fills up before I can register?
We recommend utilizing the waitlist feature in the enrollment tab of your my.unt.edu account. Students will be added to a class in the order they signed up on the waitlist if spaces open up.
We cannot guarantee that you will be added to a class that you are waitlisted for.

The class I want to sign up for requires a prerequisite course. What should I do?
You can review the course requirements and prerequisites for all UNT classes by reviewing the course description information in the UNT Catalog. If the course you would like to take has a prerequisite, you should make sure that you have taken and passed the prerequisite course. That course will need to be listed on the official transcript that you submit to UNT as part of the application process.
We also recommend emailing a copy of your transcript showing you have met the prerequisite requirements to the academic department that offers the course. Contact information for academic departments can be found here.

The class I want to sign up for requires a permission code and/or is restricted. What should I do?
Please read course requirements carefully when selecting classes:

  • Some classes are restricted to students in that major. You will need to work with the academic department that houses the class to determine if you will be permitted to register for the class. Departmental contact information can be found here.
  • Some classes are restricted to out-of-state students only and you will be required to choose another section of the class

What do I do if I want to become a degree-seeking UNT student?
We're so happy to welcome you as a full-time member of the Mean Green Family! To become a degree-seeking UNT student, you will fill out a new, four-year application to UNT and submit any official transcripts that were not submitted as part of your non-degree seeking application.
