Voices in Dangerous Times: Language Endangerment & Political Violence

A unique event hosted by Shobhana Chelliah, James Meernik, and Kimi King of the University of North Texas and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage

Location: Smithsonian Castle on March 22nd 2019 from 1-5. 

The event will commemorate the UN Year of Indigenous Languages with presentation and conversations with linguists and political scientists on our intersecting interests on language instability and political violence.  The speakers will be:  Stan Dubinsky, Harvey Starr, Kimi King, James Meernik, Leah Windsor, Shobhana Chelliah, Mary Linn.  With poster contributions from:  Samuel Atintono, Miklos Contra, Sumshot Khular, Emiliana Cruz
