Project-Based Learning in the University Classroom- PBL 101

What is Project-Based Learning?
Project-based learning (PBL) is about doing. It’s about engaging students in a learning process through authentic, relevant work. It has a long history, beginning with medical schools that recognized the need for students to practice applying theories as opposed to memorizing them. In short, in PBL, projects are the vehicle for learning, and they afford students essential opportunities to engage with real-world problems over a significant period of time, to try and fail, and to learn skills and content throughout the process.

Whether you are a PBL expert or simply PBL-curious, this interactive workshop will allow you the opportunity to explore the benefits of PBL — how (and why) you might make it work in your classroom, within one discipline, or across disciplines with colleagues similarly committed to high-impact practices. New College faculty are excited to share how they have been implementing PBL in their multidisciplinary programs!

Lunch will be provided.
