Teaching Portfolio Workshop

Dates and Time
5/13 - 5/15: 8:30AM - 4:00PM
5/16: 8:30AM - 1:00PM

A teaching portfolio is a curated collection of documents, evidence, and reflections that demonstrate a faculty member's teaching effectiveness, philosophy, and growth over time. It provides a comprehensive overview of one's teaching approach, methods, and outcomes. Think of it as a professional dossier specifically tailored to highlight your teaching prowess.

Teaching portfolios are invaluable tools for faculty members seeking to showcase their teaching excellence, foster professional development, and advance their careers in academia. By carefully documenting teaching philosophy, evidence, and reflections, educators can effectively demonstrate their dedication to quality teaching and student success. Portfolios can also fulfill requirements to provide evidence of teaching effectiveness as required in some units.

Benefits of a Teaching Portfolio:

  1. Showcase Teaching Excellence: A well-crafted portfolio demonstrates your commitment to effective teaching practices and highlights your achievements.
  2. Job Applications and Promotion: Teaching may be required for job applications, tenure evaluations, annual reviews, and promotions.
  3. Self-Reflection and Improvement: The process of creating a portfolio encourages self-reflection and continuous improvement in teaching practices.
  4. Professional Development: Building a portfolio compels faculty members to engage in ongoing professional development activities to enhance their teaching skills.
  5. Evidence-Based Teaching: Portfolios provide tangible evidence of teaching effectiveness that aligns with UNT’s teaching mission, which can be used to support claims of teaching excellence during performance evaluations.

Faculty Success is offering an in-person, 3 ½ day, experiential workshop on developing a digital teaching portfolio. Faculty participants will be assigned to an experienced mentor to receive individual guidance throughout completion of a portfolio. Each mentor has completed development of a teaching portfolio under Peter Seldin, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Management at the Lubin School of Business at Pace University and leading scholar on faculty evaluation and improving teaching effectiveness. By the end of the workshop, faculty will complete their teaching portfolio and be awarded a certificate of completion.
