Helping students to succeed is our top priority

Dear faculty and staff,

As the midterm of the semester approaches, I want to reiterate President Smatresk’s message that student success is our top priority here at the University of North Texas. Students bring us their dreams and our role is to give students the tools and resources they need to succeed at UNT and beyond. Each of you plays a critical role in helping our students succeed.

UNT has an abundance of student support services across all of our divisions that are dedicated to helping our students thrive academically, socially and personally, but students are not always aware of what we have to offer.

That’s where you come in. By familiarizing yourself with the various UNT student support resources, you can better prepare yourself to be a valuable guide for students to find help along the way.

Another valuable resource for helping students get the support they need is succeed.unt.edu, which provides students with six simple keys to succeed at UNT and connects them to the services and offices that can help them stay on track to graduation – no matter their needs.

Additionally, I’m proud to update you on the progress of our Academic Success Center at Sage Hall, which is designed to be a one-stop shop of vital academic support services. Although the entire project isn’t scheduled to be completed until 2019, the final first floor offices moved into their new spaces over the summer and students can take advantage of the following services:

Other services that will be moving into the Academic Success Center as Sage Hall renovations are completed are the Career Center, Student Veteran Services, Counseling and Testing Services and more. More information about the Academic Success Center is available online.

I believe the Academic Success Center will be a driving force in helping students get the services they need to be academically successful. I can’t wait to see it finished and fully serving students to help them achieve their personal and professional goals through graduation and beyond.

Every faculty and staff member on this campus – regardless of your individual job description – has the ability to make a difference in a student’s life, and I hope you feel as privileged to have that opportunity as I do. If you or your students are ever struggling to find the appropriate support services, we have knowledgeable staff members who can answer questions via email at succeed@unt.edu.
