CSE Professor Saraju Mohanty Receives IEEE Distinguished Leadership Award

CSE Professor Saraju Mohanty has recently received a prestigious award from IEEE. IEEE-CS-TCVLSI Distinguished Leadership 2018 Award for services to the IEEE, and to the VLSI research community was conferred to Prof. Mohanty at IEEE-CS Symposium on VLSI (ISVLSI 2018), the flagship VLSI conference of IEEE-CS, held in Hong Kong in July 2018. The award consists of a plaque and a citation.  A candidate for this award must be in a leadership position and have demonstrated excellence in shaping the IEEE-CS in terms of research or community growth for a period of at least 6 years. The candidate must be an IEEE Senior Member or Fellow to be considered and must have an outstanding research profile for a period of at-least 12 years or more. The award selection is based on worldwide nominations and award-selection by a selection committee. The 2018 award-selection committee was Chaired by Prof. Joseph Cavallaro from Rice University.

Prof. Mohanty's research is in "Smart Electronic Systems". Prof. Mohanty has globally visible researcher which has attracted funding from agencies including National Science Foundation (NSF), Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC), US Air Force, and Indo-US Technology Forum. In last couple of years Prof. Mohanty has received 4 best paper awards for his various conference and periodical articles. He has delivered 4 keynotes in last couple of years. Prof. Mohanty is an author of 280 peer-reviewed articles and 3 books, and an inventor of 4 US patents. His Google Scholar h-index is 29 and i10-index is 88.

Prof. Mohanty is heavily involved in various transactions/journal of IEEE as well as its conferences activities. He serves on the Editorial Board of 4 IEEE transactions including IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics (TCE) and IEEE Transactions on Big Data (TBD), the Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of the IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine (CEM). He serves as the Chair of Technical Committee on Very Large Scale Integration (TCVLSI), IEEE Computer Society (IEEE-CS) to oversee a dozen of prestigious IEEE conferences including ASAP, ISVLSI, ARITH. He is the founding steering committee chair for the IEEE International Symposium on Smart Electronic Systems (iSES), and the steering committee vice-chair of the IEEE-CS Symposium on VLSI (ISVLSI). Prof. Mohanty was the Conference Chair of ICCE 2018, the flagship Conference of IEEE CE Society, which is co-located with International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) as its research/education component; CES is the world's largest CE show with 3,800 exhibiting companies, 300 conference sessions and more than 165,000 attendees from 150 countries. All the activities of Prof. Mohant for IEEE spanning more than a decade have been greatly recognized internationally. For example, ICCE 2018 (held with CES) was attended by Linus Torvalds. Prof. Mohanty has initiated student travel grants to attract students to the conferences. He typically awards a total of 12 student travel grants of $250 each for the financially sponsored conferences each year. Prof. Mohanty has also initiated student best paper awards to attract students to the conferences. He typically awards a total of 8 best student paper awards of $150 each in the financially sponsored conferences each year.
