I am deeply saddened to share with you that we have experienced the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Denton. This means we now must move to the next phase of our business continuity plan. In order to protect the health and safety of our community, all on-campus instruction, student services and research will be restricted to only essential activities by close of business Monday March 23rd, where possible, and by Tuesday March 24th, at the latest.

COVID-19 Update: 03/13/20

March 13, 2020 — I will start by saying thank you in advance for all of the effort you will be putting in over the coming weeks to ensure our students continue to learn and grow under your guidance. We are facing a monumental challenge – one that our nation’s universities are taking on in good spirits. Our community is committed to doing everything we can to support each other during this difficult time.

COVID-19 Response

March 11, 2020 — I am writing with information regarding UNT’s response to COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. In recent days we have seen continued global spread of the coronavirus, with a presumptive case being reported in our region. With increased testing availability, we expect that confirmed cases of COVID-19 will grow in our region.

Mission and Priorities

We must work to solidify our standing as a comprehensive research university by enhancing our research productivity. To that aim, the offices of Academic Affairs and Research and Innovation are collaborating to provide a more supportive environment for our research community.

This year, we have several priorities and successes to report:

Research security policies and resources at UNT

As a Carnegie Tier One research university, the University of North Texas takes great pride in the partnerships and research collaborations we have built with universities and organizations worldwide. UNT is a place where people from every culture and background bring creativity to advance global knowledge. As just one example, at 4 p.m. Sept. 17 in Marquis 130, we are hosting a reception for this year’s visiting international scholars. We are committed to fostering international collaborative partnerships while promoting full transparency about our relationships.

Fall 2019 Welcome

Dear faculty and academic staff,

As we say goodbye to summer and welcome the new academic year, I want to celebrate examples of the exciting work our students, faculty and staff engaged in these past few months.

FY20 Budget

The UNT System Board of Regents met Aug. 15-16 and approved UNT’s FY20 operating budget. I am pleased to share how this approved budget will enable us to accomplish our top priorities in Academic Affairs. All Academic Affairs resources will be strategically invested to support student empowerment and transformation, people and processes, and scholarly activity and innovation.
