Joel's Tips for Student Success
What is your favorite place or thing to do on campus? Why?
My favorite thing to do is walk around campus and think about a project I’m working on or just daydream. UNT has received recognition for its campus forestry, so there’s plenty of places where you can unwind and enjoy the park-like scenery.
What advice do you have for students who are undecided in their major?
The process of deciding on a major is different for everyone. Some students know exactly what they want to do and are immediately committed to their program and major pathway, whereas others may take more time and persistence in determining their goals in college and which majors align with this.
Regardless of where you fall on this continuum, utilize your resources at UNT! The exploring majors process can be daunting for a lot of students, but it’s vital to know that you have someone here to help navigate your options and provide feedback during this time.
What advice do you have for prospective UNT students?
Take inventory. Determine UNT’s admissions requirements and the requirements of programs you may be interested in. Decide when you want to transfer and work toward that goal. If you do not know these criteria, find it online or contact UNT staff. We are here to streamline the process.
Consider your goals: Why do you want to pursue a certain program? What you want to achieve while at UNT? What is the impact you want to make? What do you want to accomplish?
Challenge Yourself. When we are out of our comfort zone, we grow and learn. Whether it’s becoming more proficient at public speaking, competing for an internship, or enrolling in a rigorous subject, take advantage of opportunities and challenge yourself to be a better student and community member.
