The Latest from Faculty Senate

The Faculty Senate’s mission is “to lead faculty in fulfilling their responsibilities in the shared governance of the University and to represent faculty interests to University and community stakeholders” (https://facultysenate.unt.edu/mission-statement). An important part of that responsibility is the review and revision of policies that impact faculty including workload, reappointment, tenure and promotion, and faculty grievance processes. Currently, the Faculty Senate is reviewing the following policies. The options when voting are: (1) to accept the policy as written, (2) accept with specific, but minor, modifications, (3) or if modifications are substantial, a recommendation to return the policy to the Senate’s Committee on Faculty Policy Oversight for further revision.  Policies being reviewed for a final vote at the next Faculty Senate meeting are as follows:

  • 06.002   Academic Appointments and Titles
  • 06.003   Academic Integrity
  • 06.005   Non-Tenure Track Faculty Reappointment, Promotion, and Reduced Appointments
  • 06.051   University Faculty Grievance
  • 06.053   Reporting Substantive Change

Copies of these policies may be found at the Faculty Senate website “workplace” menu tab https://facultysenate.unt.edu/workplace.

It is important faculty have a chance to review these policies and to contact their Faculty Senators with any comments. You will find your faculty-elected Senators listed on the Faculty Senate website: https://facultysenate.unt.edu/. You’ll also find meeting agendas and minutes as well as information regarding the various Faculty Senate committees.
