Promoting Student Engagement In and Outside the Classroom



Faculty Success is collaborating with the Faculty Senate to host a session on promoting student engagement both in and outside the classroom.

Our panel will share the strategies they use to engage students, whether in small or large classes, using varied approaches (w/technology or without) in ways that have positively impacted performance, engagement, and other class outcomes.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNT hosted its annual Faculty Appreciation Dinner Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Robson Ranch.

Led by OLLI at UNT senior director Stephanie Reinke, the event brought together special guests including UNT Provost Michael McPherson to celebrate the instructors whose passion and expertise drive the success of OLLI at UNT.

2023 Salute to UNT Faculty Book Authors 

Faculty authors and co-authors of 1st edition books, original translations or scholarly editions published in 2022 will be honored during the Salute to UNT Faculty Book Authors event that will take place on April 25th from 2-4 pm in the Union, Room 382. The event is sponsored by the Office of Faculty Success and the UNT Libraries. Come and hear your colleagues speak about their books. Hors D'Oeuvres and beverages will be served.

Team Grants: Mentoring Exemplars 2022-23

Pamela Scott-Bracey, New College; Mariya Gavrilova Aguilar, Department of Management; Jeff Allen, Department of Information Science; Ashley Reis, New College The Inclusive Learning & Mentoring Reading Group at UNT is a mentoring program and reading group for faculty focused on promoting diversity awareness, as well as supporting researching, sharing, and implementing inclusive practices within UNT classrooms.

UNT, North Central Texas College partner on NSF grant to increase equity and inclusion in engineering

An $800,000 National Science Foundation grant awarded to the University of North Texas and the North Central Texas College (NCTC) will help create more opportunities for Latinx students and communities in engineering. Nandika D’Souza, associate dean for the UNT College of Engineering and lead principal investigator, is working to create research-informed institutional change geared toward promoting racial and gender equity and inclusion in engineering fields.

Dr. Haifeng Zhang earns $2.7M Department of Energy grant to advance nuclear fuel recycling tech

Professor Haifeng Zhang in the College of Engineering is leading one of 12 research projects recently funded by the DOE initiative. Zhang will use the $2.7 million grant to develop a self-powered, wireless sensor that provides long-term, real-time monitoring of high-temperature molten salt density and level. 

What Inclusive Instructors Do: Creating Welcoming, Equitable Learning Environments

How do inclusive instructors facilitate learning experiences that are equitable and promote students’ sense of belonging? During this interactive faculty workshop led by Dr. Tracie M. Addy, author of highly acclaimed, What Inclusive Instructors Do, we will discuss how we can create transformative learning environments by exploring the results of a study of instructors who implement inclusive teaching approaches. We will also apply the principles and practices discussed to a few case studies relevant to teaching students at UNT. This will not count towards ABCA credit.

Community of Respect Workshop

The Community of Respect workshop is based on a nationally recognized program and aims to provide a more welcoming and inclusive environment for UNT's international community of students, faculty, staff, and visiting scholars. By using an international intercultural communication framework, this workshop provides UNT faculty, staff, and students with enhanced intercultural awareness and competence within an international context. Faculty can earn Anti-Bias and Cultural Awareness credit for attending the event in its entirety.
