On May 12, 2006, the UNT System Board of Regents adopted the UNT Strategic Plan for 2006-2011. Over the summer, each Vice Presidential area except Academic Affairs will develop division-level plans in support of the university plan. The Academic Plan, approved by the Provost in April of 2005 is the division-level plan for Academic Affairs.
Work on the strategic plan began in 2004 when the board challenged the university to take an in-depth look at the changes impacting higher education, including demographics, technologies, funding strategies, and legislative mandates and expectations in order to define the type of institution that UNT wishes to become by 2011.
In 2004, the campus community began its planning in the area of academics. With campus-wide input from more than 200 faculty members as well as staff and students, the university completed the Academic Plan in May 2005. The Academic Plan served as the starting point for the rest of the university’s strategic planning process.
In November of 2005, the board reviewed a draft of the strategic plan, which now has been redefined by key administrators, and revised by the university community through web-based surveys and open forums.
InHouse Newsletter, Issue 33
The initial draft of the strategic plan was posted to the web in February from comments from the campus community. Feedback was collected through the web, through emails, and through on-campus forums and meetings, resulting in significant revisions to the document which moved it from 10 goal areas to a more closely focused 4-goal; 3-theme format.
The approved version of the plan is currently being formatted for printing. The final draft will remain available until the approved version is posted.
