As family or friends of future students or as fellow educators, this page has been organized to provide resources that include the community of Denton, the values that direct campus decisions, and organizational structure of the campus.

What does the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs do?

Dr.  Howard Johnson has held this position since the Fall of 2003 and is:

  • Responsible for the main mission of the institution, including teaching, research, and service as expressed through its academic programs and services
  • Reports directly to the President and advises him on academic matters
  • Recommends budget allocations for the schools, colleges, libraries, and academic support areas
  • Supervises the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs for Distance Education, college/school deans, and directors of academic support units designated on the official organizational chart as part of Academic Affairs
  • Provides leadership in the development and supervision of those programs, including changes in curriculum, degree programs, and organization in conjunction with the deans and representatives of the faculty
  • Provides leadership in the implementation of effective planning in academic affairs, ensures leadership in excellence in academic degree programs and support units, and represents the academic interests of the university in off-campus activities as designated by the President
